Dearest Members of the Notable North Atlantic Region,
As the North Atlantic Regional Director, it is my esteemed pleasure to welcome you on this journey. I thank you for trusting me and allowing me to serve you. We will operate as a team in the pursuit of excellence at every turn.
Congratulations to our new International President, Attorney Carolyn House Stewart, and all members of the Directorate. We note with pride and send special congratulations to members of the North Atlantic Region -- Attorney Susan Simms Marsh, International Secretary, and Evelyn Sample-Oates, International Regional Director.
The theme for our 2010-2014 programs envisioned by our International President is “Global Leadership Through Timeless Service.” This will require Alpha Kappa Alpha to work SMART. Each initiative is Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Transferable for enhanced impact. Please visit www.aka1908.org for a full view of the program initiatives. We should begin to implement these initiatives now.
Our work will enhance the position of honor afforded to the birthplace of Alpha Kappa Alpha. We will place renewed emphasis on efficiency, adhering to deadlines and personal responsibility, and exemplify the best of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. We expect nothing less from the Notable North Atlantic Region. Accountability at all levels will be our shared mission. I eagerly anticipate open and honest dialogue with you as we utilize technology to strengthen our communications.
This website is designed to be more interactive with such features as a password-protected members-only section to safeguard privileged information and the option to register for e-blasts. I plan to increase communication with our General Members and use email, telephone, Facebook and Twitter to be accessible to everyone. The regional Technology Committee will work with chapters to enhance understanding of all website features.
This will be a busy Fall for us with Undergraduate Round-Up and Cluster Conferences where we will delve into our new international program. Preliminary planning is also underway for the 80th North Atlantic Regional Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey; April 6 – 10, 2011.
In the words of member Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I want all of us to find enjoyment in AKA. I look forward to working with you in keeping the “sister” foremost in the Sisterhood. We will work hard and play hard in the coming months and years.
